The primary role of the Henderson Free Library as determined in 1992 is to serve as a ‘popular materials library.” A popular materials library features current, high-demand, high interest materials in a variety of formats for patrons of all ages. A substantial percentage of the collection has been purchased in the last five years.

The secondary role of the Henderson Free Library, as determined in 1992, is to serve as a ‘children’s door to learning.’ This is defined as a library which encourages young children to develop an interest in reading and learning through services for children, and for parents and children together. This role promotes lifelong use of the library and contributes to the library’s image as an educational center for individuals of all ages.
